“Attractive Worship”
February 03, 2005
Mere Comments has stimulated a rousing repartee about the poverty of worship in many Protestant churches. Much of the blame falls on the vices common to churches that have shacked up with Rick Warren, whose organizational gospel has been discussed with great insight recently by Alan Wolfe. See also Julie Neidlinger’s blog commentary, “manipulate the audience for better crowd control.” And in the lastest articles from The Matthew’s House Project some authors really let it rip on Warren and the like, particularly in “I Hate Christmas!,” by Ron Friedman. If you have never attended the famed Willow Creek or any megachurch, Friedman gives you an inside perspective. This is “Attractive Worship” in The Japery, a part of The New Pantagruel.
