The “Christian Lifestyle” of Evangelical Surrender Monkeys
September 26, 2005
There is no mention of why the Anabaptists were persecuted or the deadly and bizarre doings of their various sects in the Reformation, but most distressing is this reference to “the Christian lifestyle” in Christianity Today.
Addendum: Such a mealy-mouthed term and concept is not an isolated anomaly in CT. See the recent CT editorial on violent video games–a formulaic case of wrongheaded liberality, i.e. gutlessness: 1) mention the differing viewpoints on the issue, no matter how absurd (e.g., a book called Everything Bad is Good for You); 2) state your “support” for the viewpoint or opinion you agree with; 3) declare the “impossibility” of the most extreme reaction: “a complete ban on games that employ random violence” such as “the random killing of prostitutes;” 4) cautiously advise parents and church leaders to help children develop a nuanced, “critical-viewing,” discerning approach to video games that include random violence without consequence.
All-righty then! Who wants to join me for some “critical-viewing” as we randomly kill virtual prostitutes, sell and take drugs, and so on? Don’t knock it before you’ve tried it, goody-two-shoes!
