Friendly Fire in the House of the Lord

In the Christian Worldview Network’s latest update is an article by Paul Proctor criticizing an upcoming video game based on the apocalyptic Left Behind book/movie series. In the middle of his folksy affectations, Proctor concludes the game is one of “the delusional dreams of Dominionists—some of whom proudly proclaim that they are going to take back this country and world FOR Jesus.” (This is a rather interesting remark from WVW, which has often featured articles defending dispensationalist “biblical prophecy.” WVW is also currently conducting a poll in which 52% of 792 readers believe that in fifty years, “America will exist but it will not be a free nation. America will be ruled by an elite group of leaders that promote aggressive socialism, Secular Humanism and extreme persecution of Christians.” Another 24% “don’t think the nation known as America will exist because of such factors as the invasion of illegal aliens and global governance that will have eliminated national borders and sovereignty.”) The website for LEFT BEHIND: Eternal Forces describes the game options:

If a youth is more inclined to give his pastor trouble, then in a multi-player game, he can even fight for the powers of darkness:

Would the powers of darkness then be equivalent to the powers of light, or is this game rigged?

While his critique of the game could be welcomed, I wonder if Proctor is aware that the star of the Left Behind movie series, Kirk Cameron, is also a favorite speaker at Worldview Weekend meetings. In another article in the Christian Worldview Network posted last October, Cameron describes Left Behind: World at War (the third movie in the series) as having “exploding limousines, the White House engulfed in flames, demonic deception special effects,” and the president, performed by Lou Gossett, Jr., weeping real tears as he responds to gospel message. The movie’s plot: “This time the Trib Force is doing all they can to slow down the plans of Nicholae Carpathia [the Antichrist and head of the UN] to annihilate Christians.”

Even in spiritual warfare or in “The Worldview War Between Christians and the Secular Left,” Chairman Mao was right, “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”
